Class Description: Latin is a beautiful but intimidating language. Together we will translate a small section of the Aeneid, as a team, with access to dictionaries and Google. You will not walk away speaking Latin, but you’ll get an idea of some of what might be going on behind the curtain when you read poetry in translation; what you are missing, what decisions translators have to make, and why one translation might sound radically different to another. We will also discuss the historical and cultural context of the Aeneid. Aimed at people with no or minimal Latin experience.
