The Ground

Getting There

Van Hoy Farms
738 Jericho Road
Harmony, NC 28634

Follow I-77 to Harmony, NC, roughly 15 miles north of Statesville and 16 miles south of Elkin. Take Exit 65 east onto West Memorial Highway (NC-901). In 0.2 miles, turn right onto Jericho Road. In 0.1 miles, turn left into the campground at Van Hoy Farms, next to the Plaza Mexico Restaurant.

What You Will Find

On Site

  • Covered Pavilion
  • Stage & Court Pad
  • Outdoor Bar
  • Shower Houses
  • Ten Permanent Toilets
  • Distributed Water Spigots
  • Ice on Site

Water spigots are distributed across the site. Bring your own hoses and Y-connectors to run water to your camp kitchen or shower. Note that merchants and some Arts & Sciences activities will be located elsewhere on site, not under the main pavilion. There is a swimming pool on site, but it will not be in use this event.

Where to Land

Camping, RVs & Vehicles

General Camping

Reserve enough land for your group through your camp’s land steward. A detachable trailer such as a popup or vardo, as long as it is not connected to any engine or generator, may go in general camping with enough reserved land and your land steward’s approval. Vardos, wagons, and medieval structures are welcome under those same conditions. No gas generators are allowed inside camps.

RV Camping

There are 24 RV sites, given first come, first served. Two hookup tiers are available and paid directly to the site owner: full hookups (power, water, sewer) and partial hookups (power, water), each at an additional nightly fee. If you take a hookup site, you are not charged the per-person site fee. An RV without hookups carries no cost beyond the site fee. Modern campers are welcome in the RV area. Current nightly rates appear on the registration page.

Parking & Vehicles

All vehicles must stay in designated parking areas. You may drive in to unload and set up, but please move your vehicle to parking within three hours. If a vehicle needs to be moved, staff will reach out to the owner. There are designated areas for general attendance, trailers, oversized vehicles, disabled parking, and staff.

Golf Carts

Privately owned golf carts are not allowed on site.

Keep It Contained

Fire & Firewood

Ground fires are allowed. If you dig a fire pit, set the removed sod aside so it can be replaced, and fill in every pit before you leave. If you ring a fire with rocks, stone, or brick, remove them before leaving.

  • Harvest deadwood on site with manual tools only. Axes are fine; no chainsaws or motorized equipment.
  • Never cut or harvest a living or standing tree or shrub. If it is attached, leave it alone.
  • Keep open fires and fire pits at least 15 feet from tents and structures, preferably 20.
  • Keep an extinguisher, water, or sand at hand, and never leave a fire unattended.
  • Flood your coals with water and make sure they are fully cool before dumping. Take all leftover firewood with you.
  • If a fire spreads past its earliest stage, clear the area and call any event staff member for help.

Leave No Trace

Water & Sanitation

  • Gray water trenches and sumps are allowed. Set the removed sod aside and replace it, and fill in all trenches and sumps before leaving.
  • Put all garbage in the dumpster or take it with you. Do not leave it beside the dumpster.
  • Help keep the privies and showers clean and operational, and report any problem to staff.
  • Put the lid down in the privies. It forces the odors to vent properly.

For Everyone’s Sake

Site Rules

Quiet Hours

2:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Be considerate of your neighbors with drumming, piping, singing, and other high-decibel night activities.

Smoking & Vaping

Not permitted in any public area. Mind the drift of your smoke and dispose of butts in proper containers.

Alcohol

No one under 21 is served, and no one in danger of incapacity is served. Hosts monitor their own camps, and security supports their calls.

Animals

Leashed, crated, or otherwise controlled at all times. Clean up after them, have vaccination info ready, and never touch or feed an animal without the owner’s permission.

Firearms

Firearms are not allowed on site.

Our Youngest Subjects

Children & Minors

  • Anyone bringing a minor who is not their legal ward must carry a notarized Minor Medical Authorization Form, available from the SCA.
  • Parents are responsible for their children and any damage they may do. Children under 12 must be within sight or voice range of a designated responsible adult or teenager at all times.
  • A curfew for minors begins at 11:59 PM. Children must be in their camps after that time.
  • Supervised evening activities are offered for minors, with transportation back to their camps before curfew.
  • If you find a lost child, ask another unrelated adult to stay with you and the child, then flag down a member of staff.

Getting Around

Accessibility

The site is mostly flat, with a slight slope to the landscape, and most of it is accessible by wheelchair. There are two charging stations for wheelchairs and CPAP machines, marked on the site map, and accessible portable toilets are provided. Disabled parking is among the designated parking areas. Please note that the main pavilion has steps down to its bottom area.
