The Tears of the Gods Competition

Event Details

  • Date: October 17, 2025 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Categories: A&S Competitions and Displays

Sponsored by the Order of the Pearls

Pearls have been used as adornment for centuries, at least as far back as ancient Greece, where they believed pearls were the tears of the gods. The oldest known pearl jewelry was discovered in the sarcophagus of a Persian princess who died in 520 BC.

Because natural pearls were so rare throughout history, only the richest nobles could afford them. During the Byzantine Empire, rules dictated that only the emperor was allowed to wear these treasured gemstones. Ancient Egyptians were often buried with their prized pearls.

The Order of the Pearl is a grant level Order of the Kingdom of Atlantia, and the value of research will be included in the Rubic for selecting the winner.

The entrants will produce a worthy “Tears of the Gods” in the fashion worn in Hellentic Greece. The judging criteria will be based on the best use of the Pearl. I have two links shown from the Metropolitan Museum of Art for you to review as you begin your journey and construction. Beadwork, Bead Embroidery, Goldwork as the Needle arts are preferred.

The prize for the winner is a Site specific certificate and a $50.00 gift certificate for supplies!
